Mildura City Council Anti-Racism Strategy: Survey

Mildura City Council Anti-Racism Strategy Survey

Acknowledgment of Country
The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission proudly acknowledges Victoria’s First Nations peoples and their ongoing strength in practising the world’s oldest living cultures. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters on which we live and work and pay our respect to their Elders past and present. Despite the past and present impacts of colonisation, Aboriginal people, families and communities remain strong and resilient. We recognise the contribution of Aboriginal people and communities to Victorian life and how this continues to enrich our society more broadly.

About Anti-Racism Strategy
Mildura Rural City Council aspires to be Australia’s most liveable, people-friendly community. Situated on the lands of the Latji Latji and Barkindji people, the municipality is home to vibrant Aboriginal and multicultural communities from 79 different nationalities.

Unfortunately, discrimination on the basis of race, religion, culture or ethnicity is a commonly reported issue for many members of the community. In response to this concern, Council will develop an Anti-Racism Strategy, due to be released in 2023.

The strategy will seek to proactively prevent and address racism in the municipality and improve the lives of all members of the community.

To support this work, Council has engaged the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission to conduct community consultation. Over the next month, the Commission will be holding targeted consultations with multicultural and multifaith communities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations and key sector organisations in the region.
